At John Hampden School, inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that every child is unique, and we celebrate the individuality, strengths, and talents that each pupil brings to our school community.
We recognise that some children may need a little extra support at certain stages of their school journey, while others may benefit from ongoing help. Whatever their needs, we are committed to ensuring that all pupils feel valued, supported, and able to achieve their very best. Our staff work together to create a warm, nurturing environment where every child can succeed. We aim to remove barriers to learning so that all pupils can take part fully in school life and enjoy a rich, meaningful education.
Our approach to supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) includes:
- Ensuring every child experiences success and feels proud of their progress
- Promoting confidence, wellbeing, and a positive attitude to learning
- Providing a broad, balanced, and inclusive curriculum tailored to individual needs
- Offering equal opportunities for pupils with SEN to engage in all aspects of school life
- Regularly identifying, assessing, and reviewing each child’s needs and progress
- Working in partnership with parents/carers, recognising their vital role in supporting their child
- Collaborating with external professionals, including the Educational Psychology Service, when needed
- Ensuring all staff and governors understand and uphold their responsibilities for SEN and inclusion
