Governors

Governing Body – John Hampden Primary School and Tetsworth Primary School

The governing body of John Hampden Primary School and Tetsworth Primary School Federation plays a vital role in shaping the strategic direction of both schools and ensuring the best possible outcomes for all pupils. Our board is made up of parents, staff and co-opted governors who bring valuable skills, experience and a wider community perspective to our work. Both schools are warm, community-centred and ambitious, with strong individual identities and shared aspirations for the future.

Governors have three main functions:

  • We set the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school.
  • We hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the children.
  • We oversee the financial performance of the school to make sure its money is well spent.

Governors also ensure the school’s safeguarding measures are safe and effective.

The governing board meets nine or ten times a year and operates a circle model, with no committees, so that all governors are fully involved in discussion and decision-making across all strategic areas. Each governor also holds a lead responsibility for specific aspects of school life such as curriculum, finance, health & safety and SEND, and monitors the school’s progress in their area of responsibility. Governors visit each school at least twice a year to deepen their understanding of school life.

Above all, governors are committed to securing the very best for every child and supporting both schools as they continue to grow and develop.
