An Introduction to the PTFA (Parents, Teachers and Friends Association)
The John Hampden Primary School PTFA is a dedicated group of parents and teachers who work together to organise a wide range of fundraising events throughout the year. With increasing pressures on school budgets, the PTFA now plays a vital role in helping to fund additional items, activities, and facilities that enrich the learning experience for every child. As a registered charity, the PTFA welcomes involvement from all members of the school community, and many people are surprised to learn that simply by being a parent or guardian of a John Hampden pupil, they are automatically a member.
The PTFA meets six times a year to plan upcoming events, discuss new ideas, and allocate funds towards improvements within the school. For those who cannot attend meetings, there are still many opportunities to help. Parents can join our Helpers list or support one of our sub‑committees, contributing as much or as little time as they are able. Whether it is running a stall at the Summer Fete, baking cakes, helping at the bar during quiz nights, or decorating the hall for a disco, a wide variety of skills are always appreciated.
John Hampden’s PTFA has a strong tradition of successful fundraising, raising over £10,000 annually in recent years. Our major events include the grand Fireworks Display, run in collaboration with the other Thame primary schools, as well as our much‑loved Summer Fete. Alongside these, we host a range of enjoyable activities for children, adults, and families.
In recent years, PTFA funds have supported numerous projects, including improvements to the PA system, the school library, stage lighting, classroom resources, outdoor equipment, a sensory room, and more. These contributions continually enhance the learning environment for all pupils, and we are deeply grateful for the ongoing support of our parents and friends.
