Holdenby House

19/10/2018 by Justin Eyre

As a year 5 year group we thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Holdenby House. As soon as we arrived we felt like we went back in time to ww2. The acting skills were astonishing. There were three activities all were equally sensational as each other.

Make do and mend

It was all about mending aged clothes, first aid, playing games, and repairing worn out things like the soles of shoes. We made rag rugs and pom-poms.

War time safety

We learnt so much about War time safety; like how to put on gas masks.  We even saw one for a baby. We heard the rattle so we knew when to put on our gas masks[not real ones!]. We went into a basement shelter where we all had to squeeze in [there were at least 15 of us in a group!]. We heard an air raid siren!!!!!

Rationing

We made food like veggie pie and mock goose. We also made salt dough decorations and pie decorations. It was fun and we saw how much food we would get in a week during WW2.

We really enjoyed our time at Holdenby house, it was a flabbergasting experience!!!!!!!!!!!
